Mullen
Elder
Gallery’s 2008 exhibition includes paintings completed
over the past thirteen years which were greatly influenced
by his travels to different countries. During a trip
to China the artist became fascinated by the beauty
of koi ponds and the graceful movement of the fish.
He challenged himself to capture the color, movement,
and ever-changing complexities of the fish and has since
created a series of paintings on canvas. One such painting
is an imposing triptych entitled “Seasons of Koi”
which is the centerpiece of the exhibition. |

Plansky
New York art critic, Brice Brown, says of Carl Plansky’s
work “The crusty, juicy mounds of pigment, the
ballet of facile mark-making, the curious luminosity
of light and the vividness of color are all deeply essential
components of the work, and indeed few artists can pull
off such satisfyingly frenetic tornadoes of materiality
like Plansky.” |

Santa
Fe Artist Featured
Perkinson's impressionist paintings are created from
his imagination and are painted intuitively. He is not
painting so much a specific location, but rather evoking
the feeling of a convincing scene. He paints a hillside
and visualizes children running down a hillside and
then paints them. The artist strives to make a landscape
stand on its own before introducing the figures, somewhat
like building a stage and then bringing on the actors. |
