Painters of Russia

During the month of March Elder Gallery in Charlotte’s Historic SouthEnd Arts District will present its fifth exhibition of Russian paintings. The exhibition will feature the work of sixteen artists which reflects life in their native country. The result is a magnificent collection of paintings incorporating the traditional painting style of the Russian impressionists as well as some of a contemporary style.

“Our past exhibitions have focused on Russian and Soviet paintings which were created from 1940 through the 1980s” says Larry Elder. “Our 2008 exhibition features a number of artists who embody the best of classical Russian realism and impressionism.” A number of the featured artists can trace their lineage back to some of Russia’s most notable teachers and painters and consider it their responsibility to preserve the classical tradition of Russian painting.

Among the painters included in the exhibition are Andrey Alekhin, Evgeni Chuikov, Yana Golubyatnikova, Vasili Gurin, Aleksei Kamenev, Sergei Klimov, Vasily Kondratuk, Nikolai Kononenko, Alexander Kremer, Dmitri Podobedov, Aleksei Polyakov, Renat Ramazanov, Vladimir Skryabin, Victor Spornikov, Vladimir Telegin and Ivan Vityuk.

Several paintings from the Soviet era will be included in the exhibition to reflect the strong artistic history of Russia and the Soviet Union. The exhibition will open with a reception on Friday, March 7 and will run through March 31, 2008.
