The Russians Return
During the month of September
Elder Gallery in Charlotte’s Historic SouthEnd District will present an exhibition of paintings
by a group of contemporary Russian painters. The exhibition will feature the work of twelve artists that
reflects everyday life in their native country. The result is a magnificent collection
of paintings incorporating the traditional painting style of the Russian impressionists as well as some of a more contemporary
style.
“Our
past exhibitions have focused on Russian and Soviet paintings which were created from 1940 through the 1980s” says Larry
Elder. “Our 2010 exhibition will feature a number of artists who embody the best of classical Russian realism and impressionism.” Several
of the featured artists can trace their lineage back to some of Russia’s most notable teachers and painters and consider
it their responsibility to preserve the classical tradition of Russian painting.
Included in the exhibition are landscape paintings of beautiful snow covered vistas
as well as spring and summer landscapes. Human figures and animals add interest to several of the paintings.
Elder Gallery’s collection is enveloped in sunlight and color for which the great Russian painters are known. The
exhibition will open with a reception on Friday, September 3rd and will run through September 28, 2010.
