For me, painting is a process of discovery.  Every time I do a body of work I always learn something new about myself, and the act of painting. When my painting is complete, I know it with certainty.  It is something that is not verbal; in other words I can’t tell someone why it is finished because we are not involved in words, we are involved with visuals and feelings.  To me painting is a journey that is always a mystery filled with the excitement of discovering the unknown.  I want the viewer of my work to take part in this journey of discovery with me.  My desire is that people seeing my paintings will experience something new within themselves.  Tom Perkinson
